Avoiding stent placement after an uncomplicated ureteroscopy

What is the ROCKS Stent Omission Appropriateness Criteria initiative?

Ureteral stents are associated with morbidity yet are frequently placed despite guidelines recommending omission after uncomplicated ureteroscopy (URS) for nephrolithiasis. Utilizing the RAND/UCLA Appropriateness method, a panel of 15 urologists met to define uncomplicated URS and variables that influence stent omission decision-making.

What we do?

  • Establish a set of criteria that can be referenced by providers when deciding whether or not to place a stent.
